Summary of 2007

2007 was a crazy productive year.

In 2007 I managed to do 4 very well received tours of Japan, record a CD of traditional Irish folk songs, joined up with a crazy touring band, became the manager of a Japanese Beatles tribute act (which wound up doing 6 shows in the US with The Killers!), and formed a music services business.  Add to that a bunch of corporate parties, recording, and the occasional Ifs gig and you can imagine how crazy it has been.

Let’s go back to things…In late February 2007 the Japanese Beatles tribute band known as the Silver Beats were asked to be the Killers opening act for a string of US dates that were to include appearances at The Fox Theater in Atlanta, The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, The Patriot Center in Virginia, The Tweeter Center in Philly/NJ, Madison Square Garden in NYC, and the Paul Tsongas Arena in Boston!  All the shows were sold out, and The Silver Beats would be direct support, performing right before The Killers.

The Silver Beats at first had no idea who the Killers were, and had never been to the US to perform, and had never played anything bigger than a medium sized club.  Being friends, and musical partners with some of the members of the beats, they asked me about it, and of course I told them that they would simply have to do it, and that it was in fact HUGE! So we set out on the course of learning how to secure performance visas, rent gear, map routes and book hotels and try to stay on some kind of a budget. It was crazy and we almost didn’t make it at the last minute but fate was on our side, and we managed to do the 6 shows with a minimum of problems and the band was adored by the audience, and I also got to sing a tune with the band every night as well!  It was a completely surreal experience to walk onstage at Madison Square Garden!

As a result of things I have become the band’s manager, and The Silver Beats have now completed 2 solo tours of the US to rave reviews, and most recently sold out a show at DC’s famed 9:30 Club, and have also been booked to perform at this year’s Virgin Music Festival (August 2008). Aside from the Silver Beats I have joined up with Jeremy Hoyle. Jeremy is one of Buffalo’s top entertainers, and has a great gig flying all over the country doing shows for this company that owns a string of clubs throughout the US. We fly out on a Thursday or a Friday, and rock out in cities like Minneapolis, Charlotte, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cincinnati, Raleigh, and more.  Jeremy is a absolute riot onstage and one of the best I’ve seen at working up a crowd, his own songs are pretty damn good too!
